Simpson Strong-Tie BVLZ Brick Veneer Ledger Connector
The BVLZ brick veneer ledger connector offers a code-compliant and tested solution for adding a deck to a house with a brick veneer exterior. It allows for attaching a wood ledger to the framing through the veneer, eliminating the need to remove or replace significant portions of the brick veneer.
The connector kit includes a steel ledger plate, a compression strut, two tension screws, and six shear screws.

- Measure and mark the placement of ledger plates on the veneer
- Drill holes through the mortar joint using a hammer drill and a 1 1/8" masonry drill bit, following the guide's instructions
- Mark and drill angled holes on the ledger board corresponding to the marked locations on the veneer
- Attach the compression strut to the ledger plate using the provided screws
- Position the ledger board against the brick veneer and secure it with the tension screws
- Adjust the compression struts with pliers to ensure a tight fit against the framing
- Repeat the installation process for the remaining BVLZ connectors along the ledger's length.
